Chain snatchers nabbed; ornaments, two-wheeler seized

Mangaluru: The city crime branch (CCB) police personnel have nabbed two notorious chain snatcher responsible for chain snatching incidents that had occurred within the limits of Moodbidri police station and Adoor police station in Kasaragod district. The police were gathering information regarding the chain snatching incidents occurring within city limits when they received information that two youth involved in chain snatching were moving towards the city from Moodbidri in a two-wheeler without registration number plate. The police chased the vehicle and arrested the accused.
The arrested culprits are identified as K Nooman (23), son of Basheer, residing near Kuntalgudde railway tracks at Kannur villlage and Samsheer (21), son of Tamjee, residing near Kuntalgudde railway tracks in Kannur village.
On Feb 15, the accused had pulled away a necklace from the neck of Anupama S Hegde from Prantya Prantya within Moodbidri police station limits and on Feb 17th, they had yanked off a necklace from the neck of a lady walking by the roadside at Kuntaru within Adoor police station limits in Kasargod district. The stolen goods have been recovered from the thieves.
There are two cases booked against Nooman for chain snatching at Bantwal rural, Bantwal town, Mangaluru rural police station and a case each at the city (east) and Barke police stations.
Modus operandi
The accused approached lonely women on the road in the guise of seeking directions and then run off with the victim’s necklace by pulling it off. While committing the crime, they always used two-wheelers without any registration plates. Items worth a total of Rs 1,10,900 were seized from the accused.
deputy police commissioners, Hanumantharaya and Uma Prashanth, and city police commissioner T R Suresh guided the operation conducted by CCB inspector Shantharam, police sub-inspectors, Shyam Sundar and Kabbalraj and other staff.
