Minor sexually assaulted; uncle gets 10 years RI

Mangaluru: The 2nd additional district and sessions Court and the POCSO special Court Judge B R Pallave has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and fined Rs 10,000 under the POCSO act for sexually assaulting his minor niece.

The convict is is identified as Chandrakant (44), a resident near Gowri Math in Mangaluru. The punishment has been ordered within 9 months of investigation based on medical and investigating officer’s evidence and under IPC sec 376 and section 6 of the Pocso act.

Incident details

An 11-year-old girl child who was a relative of Chandrakant’s wife had come to her aunt’s house on summer vacation. On the midnight of May 2nd 2018, the minor girl was sexually assaulted by Chandrakant.

Witnessing this, Chandrakant’s wife glistered a case regarding the crime with Pandeshwar women’s police station. An investigation in this connection was conducted under the leadership of SI Kalavati. Altogether 8 witness were recorded in connection to the crime including the victim child, her mother, wife of the accused, grandmother and others. Special public prosecutor C Vekataramana argued on behalf of the prosecution.
