Bengaluru: Sumalatha Ambareesh, actress and wife of late actor turned politician M H Ambareesh on Sunday, February 24 said that she was hoping to contest on a Congress ticket for the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Mandya constituency.
Addressing presspersons here during Ambareesh’s third-month death ceremony she said that she had never paid attention to the seat-sharing row between the Congress and the JD(S). The people of Mandya have made it apparent that they want to her to contest and their decision is more important to her more than anything else, she added.
She further adding said that her husband Ambareesh was in Congress all these years, and their friends and the people they know also belong to Congress party, therefore, she wants the ticket from Congress itself.
After the people of Mandya and Ambareesh’s fans demanded her to contest in the coming Lok Sabha elections she decided to contest, therefore she will only listen to the people of the district and has no strategies, she added.
It may be recalled that Sumalatha had also met Congress Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah on February 20 and sought the ticket.
However, Siddaramaiah is yet to announce his party’s decision. Meanwhile, Congress is caught in a quandary as the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency has become a bone of contention with its alliance partner, JD(S).
On the other hand, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy is keen on fielding his son and actor, Nikhil Kumar from Mandya.
