Bengaluru: JD(S) will be fielding former MLA Madhu Bangarappa as it’s party candidate from Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency informed JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda on Monday, February 25.
Addressing presspersons, after meeting Bangarappa at the latter’s Sadashivanagar residence Deve Gowda said that Shimoga Lok Sabha seat has been allotted to the JD(S) and therefore the party has decided to field Madhu Bangarappa from Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency.
He further added that the Congress leaders have also agreed to field Bangarappa, as he is an able candidate for Shivamogga. He had personally come and meet Bangarappa as he had distanced himself from the party after losing the Shivamogga bypoll last year, he added.
Bangarappa was upset and inactive after he was defeated in the Shivamogga bypoll by Yeddyurappa’s son BS Raghavendra, therefore, Deve Gowda had to meet him personally to convince him, informed sources.
It may be recalled that during the bypoll held in November 2018, the JD(S) had announced Bangarappa’s candidature in the last minute, which was counter-productive for the party.
