- Indefinite strike from today
Malpe: Deep sea and traditional fishermen took siege on the fisheries deputy director’s office demanding that action be initiated against those indulging in purse seine fishing and light fishing which is still being used by many.
Purse seine and light assisted fishing is being conducted in violation to the judgement given against it by the higher Court and the order of the state and the centre. This must be stopped immediately and complaints must be filed against them, the fishermen demanded.
Strike from Feb 27th
As the fisheries department has failed to take any action against those indulging in unscientific methods of fishing, an indefinite strike will be held from Feb 27th under the leadership of Mape deep se trawlwe boat fishermen association and all deep sea fishing will be stopped, informed Kishore D Suvarna, president of the association.
Written order to the police
It has come to the notice that the higher Court’s order is being violated by a few boats who are using onboard generators to indulge in light assisted fishing. It is being said that the deputy director of the fisheries department has sent a written order to Malpe police station and the Coast guard to identify boats indulging in the banned practice of fishing and file complaints against them.
