Karkala: Thieves managed to break open into a shop dealing with electronic goods located adjacent to Nandalike Cross near Belman and made off with multiple television sets and cash on late night Monday February 25th.

The thieves entered Goodwill Enterprises shop owned by one Sridhar, by breaking open the shutters and stole 18 television sets and Rs 3,000 cash which was lying in the cash counter. Ironically, the Mr Sridhar residence is right above the shop in the same building, but the theft came to the owner’s notice only after being informed of it by the paper delivery boy.

It is assumed that the theft must have occurred at around 3-4 am on Tuesday. The thieves apparently took caution and pointed the CCTV cameras away from the shop and while leaving with their bounty, they took the CCTV camera hard disk with them.

The floor right above the shop is occupied by Nandalike gram panchayat and also has CCTV cameras. But, the camera view facing the road opposite to the shop is blocked by the panchayat’s board. Thus the very purpose the cameras were installed was defeated while working as a boon for the thieves.

Assistant superintendent of police Krishnakanth, police circle inspector Halamurthy, rural station house officer Nassir Hussain, finger print expert and officials of the district crime intelligence bureau visited the spot and conducted investigation. A complaint in this connection has been filed with Karkala rural police station.
