Mangaluru: Ravindra Kalabhavan complex which was renovated with funds from Mangalore University was inaugurated by former union minister and sitting MP Dr M Veerappa Moily on Wednesday February 26th.
Speaking after inaugurating the complex, Mr Moily said, “The purpose of education is not only to secure a degree, but to serve as a tool to increase human resources. Colleges bring out hidden talents and make impossible things possible in students. Mangalore University inspires students through creative arts. I am one of the examples for the same,” he said. Incidentally, Mr Moily is an alumnus of the college and recollected old memories at the University.
“There is a demand of funds amounting to Rs 1.14 crore for the development of the college. I will try to get the funds released, if suitable project plan is prepared,” assured Moily.
Welcoming the gathering Principal Dr Udaya Kumar said, “I had a desire to visit this college, where I did my education. College registrar Dr Savadatthi had brought me here. The situation of the college was like the aftermath of a war. Nothing was in order. The results were zero per cent. I suggested making it a University college. A new phase started in the college after March 1993. It secures results of 95 per cent now.”
Speaking on the occasion urban development minister U T Khader said, “Dr M Veerappa Moily has shown that one can raise his alma mater to higher levels.”
Mayor of the city Bhasker K, chief minister’s parliamentary secretary Ivan D’Souza, Mangalore University chancellor Professor A M Khan, old student’s association president Dharmanna Naika and others were present on the occasion.
