Mulki: The government has approved the proposal to upgrade Mulki as a taluk and the official declaration from the revenue department is expected within a week. The decision was taken at a meeting of MLA’s and ministers.

The four decades old dream of the people of Mulki has been realized. Leaders of all political parties and the general public have appreciated this move.

Report to government committee

Even before the creation of Udupi district, a committee led by Hundekar, Gaddi Gowadar and Vasudeva Rao had visited Mulki and held discussions with the people here and submitted a proper report to the government according to which it was justified to create Mulki taluk by taking many areas within a few limits of Udupi district.

Land has been reserved

There are documents which show that 2 acres of land near Gerukatte has been reserved for the creation of Mulki taluk office. There is also news that a part of the reserved land was given to the government once upon a time for the construction of a community hall for the use of the community.

Several people were part of the fight

Late G M Shetty had written many articles regarding the eligibility of Mulki to become a taluk. Under the leadership of Harikrishna Punaruru, several elders from Mulki held strikes and satyagrahas and submitted the request to the government through the delegation by Abhya Chandra. Former minister K Amarnath Shetty, K Abhya Chandra, MLA Umanath Kotiyan and many leaders from Mulki had not only provided support to the fight for making Mulki into a taluk but also made attempts for the same multiple times.

The continuous effort of the people of Mulki and leaders of various political parties has finally achieved its goal through the approval given by the chief minister H D Kumaraswamy and revenue minister R V Deshpande. Through the approval the feelings of the people of Mulki has been honoured and for this, leaders of all political parties and the general public is grateful.

Had assured during his visit

Last time, when visiting Mulki even before becoming the chief minister, Kumaraswamy was informed by the people of the process of making Mulki a taluk and then, he had assured that if he became the chief minister he would make Mulki a taluk. When former minister K Amarnath Shetty, Mulki JD(S) block president Jeevan Shetty and other officials again reminded the CM of his promise, he had informed that he would announce that Mulki would be made into a taluk during the supplementary budget. Now, by adding Mulki to the list of taluks, Kumaraswmany has stayed true to his words.
