Police phone in programme: Special operation against traffic violation

Mangaluru: “A special operation will be conducted in the city against no registration number plates on the vehicle, blaring horn, use of tinted glasses above the permissible tint percentage limit, and parking of vehicle in no parking area,” said police commissioner of the city Sandeep Patil responding to the queries of citizens of the city in the police phone-in programme that was held at his office on Friday, March 1.

Some street lights are not burning in Lalbagh, Laydhill and Hathill areas of the city. Few youths scream under the influence of alcohol while driving their cars on weekends, party and throw the garbage on the road side and cause inconvenience to the residents of the nearby apartments and other local residents complained a caller.

The commissioner responded and said that problem will be considered seriously and action will be taken under the Karnataka police act.

Another caller complained of street vendors selling their goods on the footpath were causing problem to pedestrians near Pandeshwar Viyarthi Bhavan and the commissioner responded that action will be taken.

A caller complained of the malfunctioning or missing reflectors and indicator lights of heavy vehicle and the danger they posed to vehicle following such vehicles. The commissioner asked the president of the Bus Owners’ association and the RTO also to look into the matter.

To a callers suggestion to make PVS circle signal free like Bejai circle, the commissioner informed that the matter will be investigated and necessary action will be taken. All zebra crossings in the city will be painted, he assured.

Police to make use of twitter

“Twitter will play an important role in solving the traffic emergencies in the city. This is more transparent too. This is in use in cities like Bengaluru. In Mangaluru also twitter account system should be made popular,” suggested the new police commssioner.

  • Inconvenience faced by locals due to the parking of College vehicles in Shivanagar road of Pandeshwar
  • Parking of contract carriage buses that ply to Bengaluru and other paces on both the sides s causing traffic block on the stretch between PVS junction and Bunts Hostel
  • Some cold storage shops are mixing chemicals into soft drinks which is injurious to health
