Mandya Lok Sabha polls: Sumalatha keeps her options open

Bengaluru: Sumalatha Ambareesh, actress and wife of late actor turned politician M H Ambareesh will be taking the most crucial decision of her life right after the meeting of Congress leaders on seat-sharing formula which is scheduled to be held on Monday, March 4.

Sumalatha has three options to make her political debut, she can secure a ticket from Congress, contest as independent candiate or to accept BJP’s invitation including former external affairs minister S.M. Krishna

However, her decision will be announced only after the congress leaders meeting on whether to field from Madya or to leave the seat to alliance partner JD(S).

In the Lok Sabha bypoll last year Congress workers in Mandya had voted for BJP candidate Dr Siddaramaiah as they were upset with the decision of the top brass to allow JD(S) to contest the Lok Sabha bypoll last year.

It seems like a similar situation has emerged this year and this senario could Sumalatha if Congress hands Mandya to JD (S). If she goes with the BJP whose vote share has grown, Mr. Krishna’s supporters could also throw in their lot with her.

It may be recalled that on the occasion of third-month death ceremony of her late husband Ambareesh’s she informed that she never paid attention to the seat-sharing row between the Congress and the JD(S). The people of Mandya have made it apparent that they want to her to contest and their decision is more important to her more than anything else.
