Mangala swimming pool opens to the public

  • Fee collection exceeds expectation

Mangaluru: The newly renovated Mangala swimming pool has been made available for the use of the public from the month of March and within two days of its opening; more than 500 people have made use of it. Interestingly, more than Rs 1 lakh has been collected in fees.

Entry to the swimming pool was banned since the past 6 months in the backdrop of the renovation work it was undergoing. The pool was opened for the Public on Mar 1st and on the first day it attracted 117 students, 26 people and collected a total fee of Rs 88,540. On the second day, 248 students and 51 people made use of the pool with a total fee collection of Rs32,401. Overall, more than Rs 1 lakh was collected as fees in a span of two days.

Demand for 3 months pass

The swimming pool opens at 5 am in the morning and with time duration of 45 minutes per shift, 5 shifts will be conducted by 9:45 am. Later, the swimming pool opens at 3:45 pm in the afternoon and remains open till 9:45 pm in the night by which, 5 shifts will have been conducted. There will be a 15 minute break between every shift and the swimming pool weekly holiday will be on Monday. There are passes for the use of Mangala swimming pool lasting various time periods including 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and a yearly pass of which, there is a greater demand for the 3 months validity pass, inform Mangala swimming pool officials.

Already, close to 50 passes have been bought by the general public and students.

Summer camps will be conducted at Mangala swimming pool for school and college students during their summer vacation. Due to the lack of water two years back and because of the filter problem a year ago, the summer camps could not be conducted as planned. But now the swimming pool has been renovated with the latest technology and the institution has planned to start the summer camps from the next months onwards.

New technology

“Entry into Mangala swimming pool has been permitted for the general public and students to from March 1st and already there is good response. Latest technology has been installed to attract swimmers,” said Bhaskar K , MCC Mayor

Good response

“After the installation of the latest technology at Mangala swimming pool, it has received good response from the public and the students. There is a thought to demolish the earlier water purification unit and creation of a kids swimming pool there and talks are being held in this regard,” informed Rajesh Kumar, MCC engineer

Another swimming pool

There are thoughts for the creation of another swimming pool in the city of international standards. The district in-charge minister U T Khader has already given a statement on this. The corporation will be identifying land around the city for the construction of the swimming pool and there is an aim to hold international level swimming competitions here.
