Vehicles failing to pay tax will be seized: RTO

Rs 19 crore pending to be collected
Udupi: Vehicle owners whose tax is yet to be paid must pay it immediately. If not, such vehicles will be seized, warned deputy transport commissioner, Udupi senior RTO R M Varnekar.
Speaking at the press conference he said, “The transport department had given Udupi RTO the aim to collect Rs 140.21crore in tax during the 2018-19 financial year. Till now, 90% of the aim has been reached and if it should reach 100%, then Rs 19 crore must be collected by the end March. In the 2017-18 financial year, the ai was to collect Rs 136.5 crore in taxes which was achieved by 100.1%,” he informed.
Chargesheet against 900 vehicles
“Notices have already been sent to vehicle owners with pending tax payments. Chargesheet against 900 vehicles has been submitted to the Court. Cases will be booked against vehicle violating their permit limits and tax and fines will be collected from them. Strict action will be taken as per the Motor Vehicle Act,” he informed.
250 vehicles seized
In a span of months, a total of 250 vehicles have been seized including 8 buses, 50 motor cab, 35 lorries, ambulance and school vehicles. Cases have been booked against vehicles violating their permit limits and such vehicle have been fined and taxed. 181 cases in this connection have been booked in January. A total of Rs 18,56,525 and Rs 5,79,500 has been collected in taxes and fines respectively,’ he informed.
GP president’s car seized
There was complaint alleging that Billady GP president was making use of a number plate of another car for his own car and hence the car has been seized, informed the RTO.
Even though registered in other states..
Any vehicle registered in any other state must pay the state’s tax if it’s being used for more than 30 days in the state, informed the RTO.
