Man who attacked wife with acid over Rs 10,000 arrested

Bengaluru: A man who had attacked his wife with acid after she refused to give him money was arrested by the Annapoorneshwari Nagar police.
The accused Charanjit Bishwas(30) on February 20, allegedly threw acid on his wife Tapasi, who has signed up for surrogacy with a city fertility centre, after she refused to give Rs 10,000 which he was demanding.
Tapasi and Chiranjit had a love marriage eight years ago. Chiranjit is unemployed and an alcoholic. The couple got in touch with Varada Fertility Pvt Ltd in Nagarabhavi, and Tapasi offered to enter into a surrogacy arrangement with the firm. She was staying at the clinic since February 9. Chiranjit arrived at the firm on February 20 morning and took his wife outside. He demanded Rs 10,000 and she tried to convince him that she had not been paid yet. A furious Chiranjit pulled out an acid bottle from his bag and threw its contents on her face, chest and head, informed sources.
Since the incident took place, Chiranjit Biswas, was on the run and had been booked for attempt to murder and punishment for acid throwing under IPC sections.
In the investigation, it was gathered that after attacking his wife, Bishwas fled to his native village in West Bengal. The police successfully tracked him down and arrested him on Monday, March 11.
Tapasi Biswas, mother of two daughters who had sustained 15% burns on her face, chest and head is recovering at the Victoria hospital of the city, informed sources.
