Girl child sexually assaulted: 7 years RI

Mangaluru: K M Ashraf (29), a resident of Babrukodi in Manjeshwar Varkady has been sentenced by Mangaluru 2nd Additional District and Session Court to 7 years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) and fined Rs 10,000 for sexually assaulting a four-and-a-half-year old girl child.
The Court has ordered that Rs 7,500 of the fined amount must be provided to the victim’s family and also recommended that the victim is eligible for relief from the government through the Legal Service Authority.
The crime
On Dec 23rd 2014, cable operator Asraf had visited a house in Deralakatte for repair work. On the occasion, the convict called the four-and-a-half-year old girl child to the roof of the house and sexually assaulted her there. A complaint in this regard was filed with Konaje police by the mother of the victim child. The then PSI Sudhakar registered a case under POCSO Act, conducted investigation and submitted the chargesheet to the Court.
The Judge B R Pallavi examined 15 witnesses following which the judgement was passed on Saturday. Specia Public Prosecutor C Venkataraman Swami argued on behalf of the prosecution.
