Belthangady: Four children were hospitalized after they showed signs of poisoning post consumption of food prepared at their homes using water from a nearby river. The incident reported from Savanalu village of the taluk however has come to light with some delay. Apparently, some miscreants had put poison into the river water to catch fish.
Reportedly, certain people had poured copper sulphate into the river to catch fish. However, the residents of homes near the river used the same river water without knowing of its contamination, prepared food, consumed it and then fell ill because of the poisoning. The sick are receiving treatment at Wenlock Government Hospital in Mangaluru.
It is learnt that no complaint was registered against the culprits as they had already given threats to the victims.
Circle inspector Sandesh P G has visited the location.
