Bantwal: In a tragic incident, a father killed his daughter by giving her poison and committed suicide by consuming poison himself. The incident took place at Viveknagar in BC Road on Saturday March 23rd.

The deceased man is identified as Prabhakar (45), resident of a rented flat in Viveknagar and son of Venkatesh Sapalya from Bantwal and his daughter Pranamya (10). Prima Facie revealed that the death was due to poison consumption. The corpses have been sent to Deralakatte hospital for autopsy.

In the evening around 4 pm, Prabhakar’s wife Hemavati rushed to their neighbour’s house and asked assistance stating that her husband had fallen unconscious. A doctor in the vicinity immediately rushed to the house for examination. But the doctor opinioned that several hours had passed since the man had died.

The shock of the incident left Hemavati speechless due to which no further information could be obtained from her. The family members suspect that financial burden must have forced the man to take the extreme step.

He was in abroad

Prabhakar was earlier working abroad for some years. After returning back, he built his own house in Bantwal and had a grocery business. Due to loss incurred in his business, he was forced to sell his house to repay the loan. Later, they were residing in a rented flat. He was working at a finance business in Mangaluru for livelihood.

Absent to work, school

On Saturday, Prabhakar did not go to work and stayed back at home. His daughter was pursuing 4th std education at Vidyagiri English Medium School and even though there was an exam, she was not sent to the school. Hemavati was working as a beautician but there is no information if she was at home or not during the incident. A family member who arrived home after receiving information of the incident has admitted her to a hospital for treatment. There is no confirmation on if she too has consumed the poison.

Bantwal Town Police Station Inspector Chandrashekhar has registered a case under the guidance of the District Superintendent of Police P M Laxmi Prasad and conducting investigation.
