Mysuru: In yet another instance of misuse of power, State Tourism Minister Sa Ra Mahesh, on Wednesday, March 27 ordered the suspension of a traffic head constable allegedly because the latter had stopped his car for a routine inspection.

The incident occurred yesterday when the minister along with Mysuru-Kodagu coalition Lok Sabha candidate Vijayshankar visited the Deputy Commissioner’s office for filing nomination papers.

The suspended traffic head constable Venkatesh, from Kuvempunagar Police Station was on duty at that time and had stopped the car to check the number of occupants in the car since the election model code of conduct allows only specified number of people to enter the DC’s office.

This however did not augur well with Sa Ra Mahesh and instructed police higher-ups to initiate action against Venkatesh, said eye witnesses.

After gathering information about the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mutturaj issued Venkatesh’s suspension order.

The DCP justified his order stating that a maximum of three cars could be allowed to accompany the candidate who is filing the nomination as per model code of conduct but the constable had not followed the procedures.
