BBMP demolishes 2,021 shops at KR Market

Bengaluru: Following High Court intervention, which made the officials take action against encroachments, as many as 2,021 shops were cleared and more than 200 loads of materials including tables, metal sheets and other temporary structures have removed by the BBMP at K.R. Market on Friday, March 29.
Reportedly, 48 tractors, 15 trucks, eight compactors, eight JCBs along with 390 BBMP workers, 30 marshals and the police gathered for the crackdown.
BBMP officials after carrying out the drive claimed that spots have been identified for the deployment of fire tenders and ambulances during an emergency and no vending will be allowed in these spots and on the entire path leading to the market.
Encroachments will also be cleared inside the three-floor market complex and regular inspections shall be held, informed sources.
