Electric shock: Couple dies

Venur: A couple dies due to an electric shock at Kokradi within Venur police station limits at around 9 pm Thursday night. The deceased have been identified as Sanjiva Mulya (56) and his wife Sarojini (50) from Kokradi. They are survived by a daughter who is pursuing a degree.

Sarojini observed sparks flying from the electricity meter and when she attempted to remove the fuse, she was struck down by electrical shock. Hearing his wife’s painful screams, Sanjiva rushed behind his house and ran towards his wife and in the process, accidentally kicked the earthing wire and was instantaneously killed by electric shock.

When the incident occurred, the couple’s daughter was inside the house along with a relative and hence escaped danger. It is learnt that the family is from a poor background and used to survive through daily wages.

Reason behind the incident

According to sources from Mescom, due to a technical problem in the transformer from where the electricity was being supplied to the house, there was a sudden surge in voltage. Th power supply facility to 4-5 houses in the vicinity has been damaged. Senior officials have visited the spot.
