Elaborate arrangements undertaken for PM Modi’s visit to the city

Mangaluru: Elaborate arrangements are being undertaken by the district administration and police department for the proposed participation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the BJP’s election campaign meeting being held at Nehru Maidan here on April 13. No stone is is being left unturned to make fool-proof security arrangements for PM’s visit.
Officials from the Special Protection Group (SPG) responsible of overseeing PM’s security arrangement have already visited the city on Wednesday and undertaken journey along the road from Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) to Nehru Maidan.
1,472 police personnel for security
As many as 1,472 police personnel including five superintends/deputy commissioners of police, 18 deputy superintendents of police/assistant commissioners of police, 36 police inspectors, 67 police sub-inspectors and other personnel have been deployed on security details. Contingent of Karnataka State Reserve Police, city armed reserve contingents, and two central reserve police force contingents have been tasked of discharging duties at 34 sector mobiles, picketing in 144 areas regarded as sensitive and other duties. Hotels and lodges are being scrutinised while CCTV cameras have been installed in various places. Airport and railway stations are under close vigil.
Traffic diversion
Depending on the traffic density during PM’s visit, vehicles would be diverted to other routes on temporary basis. The final stops for city buses, service buses, contract carriage buses, inter-district buses is designated at Jyothi Circle, Mangaladevi and Navabharath Circle from 1 pm to 7 pm on April 13th. KSRTC buses will pass via Pumpwell – Nanthoor – KPT and Kuntikan to KSRTC bust stand.
City police commissioner Sandeep Patil has announced that parking of vehicles on the road between the airport to the Maidan has been banned from 8 am till the PM goes back on April 13.
Parking facility
Alternative parking arrangements have been made for vehicles coming for the programme. Buses coming from the direction of Udupi – Mulky – Suratkal, Kateel, Bajpe, Kavoor, Kottara Chowki can park their vehicles at Karavali Utsav ground, Urwa Market ground, Ladyhill church ground and Kulur Goldfinch city ground. Canara high school ground at Mannagudda is available for car parking.
Dropping point for buses coming from Karkala, Moodbidri, Sullia, Puttur, Belthangady, Bantwal and other areas is Jyothi Circle while their parking has been arranged at Ramakrishna school ground at Bunts Hostel, Kadri ground at Mallikatta, Padua high school ground and St Agnes school ground. Shantinilaya ground at Balmatta will provide space for car parking.
Mangaladevi is the dropping point for vehicles coming in from Ullal, Konaje, Deralakatte Kasaragod and other areas which will move via Pumpwell, Kankanady to Mangaladevi. The parking spot for them has been arranged at Yemmekere ground and Vaman Naik ground, Morgans Gate ground has been designated at the parking spot for cars.
