Kasaragod: On the final day of Lok Sabha election campaigning, a spontaneous fight broke out between Left Democratic Front (LDF) and United Democratic Front (UDF) workers at Udama here forcing the police to resort to lathi charge and tear gas on Sunday evening April 21st.
When the workers of the two parties started pelting stones on each other at Udama market, the police employed lathi charge to disperse the crowd. But when the crowd remained defiant, the police fired tear gas.
The police had defined locations for both UDF and LDF for campaigning at Udama market and Palakunnu market respectively. But when LDF workers attempted to venture into Udama market, they were confronted by the workers of UDF. Soon this resulted in stone pelting. In order to control the situation, lathi charge and tear gas were used due to which many suffered minor injuries.
A clash between UDF and LDF occurred near Kasaragod new bus stand which was soon controlled by the police.
