Mangaluru: Stating that the present water level at Thumbe vented dam was enough to meet the water needs of the city for next 30 days, MLC Ivan D’Souza appealed the district administration to revoke the present water rationing system and release drinking water on alternate days.
Speaking to reporters at the district Congress office on Monday, April 22, Ivan said water level at Thumbe vented dam presently stands at 5.2 meters which is enough to meet the drinking water needs of the people for the next 30 days. “A team of Congress leaders delegation met district deputy commissioner and urged him to supply drinking water on alternate days instead of the existing system of providing drinking water for four days continuously and stopping it for the next two days,” he said adding that the officer had assured to look into the issue and take the appropriate measures to address the same.
Taking objection to politicisation of the water issue by Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath, Ivan asked the legislator to reveal how many times he had visited Thumbe vented dam and what precautionary measures he had taken to address the drinking water problems instead of blaming the Congress leaders for the drinking water problems.
Former mayors and deputy mayors Bhaskar K, Shashidhar Hegde, Jescinta Alfred, Purushotham Chithrapur, corporators Naveen D’Souza and Asha D’Silva were present.
