Uppinangady: Youth drowns in a stream

A group of youths who came on a tour from Bengaluru

Uppinangady:  A youth who has come along with a group of youths on a tour from Hosakote in Bengaluru drowned in Netravati River in Uppinangady on Thursday. The deceased is identified as Muniya Gowda (28), son of Nanje Gowd, a resident of Edakana Halli in Hosakote Bengaluru.

The deceased along with his relatives Satish Gowda, Suresh Gowda and Shrinivas had come on a visit to Udupi. The group was on their way back to Bengaluru when the tragedy occurred.

Youth pull out the corpse

The mortal remains of the deceased youth was pulled out to the surface by four local youths identified Rafique, Sameer, Sanoja and Rafeeq in the presence of the police. The location was visited by probationary ASP Pradeep Gunti under whose guidance the police conducted investigation.

They had ventured into the water for a swim

A member of the group, Sathish Gowda spoke with the reporters on the incident and said, when we returning back to Bengaluru from Udupi, we saw the Netravati River water and had a strong desire to venture into the waters. Since small children were already enjoying in the water, we assumed the waters were safe. Muniya Gowda jumped from a rock and drowned after not being able to come up to the surface, he informed.
