Bengaluru: A airline passenger who opened the emergency exit door on the GoAir flight out of curiosity was detained briefly before being let off a warning at Bengaluru International Airport here.

The man Sunil Kumar (24) had boarded the GoAir flight bound to Lucknow. He was seated on emergency exit row 12B and the flight was scheduled to take off at 8.20 am, meanwhile Sunil out of curiosity opened the emergency exit on the left wing of the flight due to which a panic situation was created among passengers. After which all 171 passengers were asked to deboarded the flight after Sunil Kumar opened the emergency exit on the left wing of the flight, informed sources.

Following the incident, a complaint was filed against Sunil at the Bengaluru Airport police station.

In a statement recorded with the police, Sunil reportedly said that though he was told not to open the emergency exit and to use it only in times of emergency, he opened it by mistake.

“I apologise to the airline and to the passengers for my conduct,” Sunil added.

The airline further claimed that instructions on the emergency window and other operations were repeatedly issued in multiple languages, including Hindi, the language Sunil specified he was comfortable in. The airline spokesperson also added that Sunil opened the emergency exit out of curiosity. Sunil was later let off with a warning.
