Manipal: The building and premises for the Durga Sanjeevani Manipal (DSM) multi-speciality hospital at Kateel in Mangaluru will be formally handed over to MAHE and Kasturba Hospital on April 29, 2019, at 10 am in the presence of Shri Vishweshatheertha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt by Sanjeevani Charitable Trust. The hospital will become functional later this year.
This hospital is a joint venture of three entities -Dr. Suresh Rao, a well-known general surgeon from Mumbai who started the Sanjeevani Charitable Trust (SCT) at Mumbai, the Kateel Shree Durga Parameshwari Temple Trust and Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE). It was Dr Rao’s dream to have a multi-speciality hospital in his home town of Kateel. And with support from Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) that dream is being realized.
Manipal Hospital group will equip and manage the hospital with the latest healthcare technology to serve the people through a well-experienced team of doctors and staff of KMC Hospital Attavar. Apart from small clinics, presently there is no proper healthcare facility available in Kateel and the villages around it. Emergency cases are being taken to Surathkal, Mangaluru or Manipal. Other than the people from the nearby villages, even devotees of the Kateel Shree Durga Parameshwari temple can avail of the facilities in case of any emergency.
The foundation stone for the hospital was laid on February 19, 2017. The building has come up on 1.5 acres of land. The three-story hospital building has provision for nearly 100 beds. As a part of the multi-speciality hospital, it will have a trauma centre, ICU and a 24×7 working laboratory. It will also have a pharmacy.
