Henceforth, ticket checking system in city buses too

Mangaluru: Most bus conductors of the more than 300 buses plying in the city daily fail to give ticket to the passengers. In order to prevent this, the City Bus Owners Association has decided to implement ticket inspection system in the city buses.

The city bus transport system is becoming digital by the day. Only recently was the ’Chalo’ app released here and all the buses plying in the city have been fixed with GPS. Even though the transport system has been modernized so much, no effective solution has been found so far to the problem of not providing the ticket. Therefore henceforth, ticket checking personnel will be visiting the bus regularly.

Ticket checking system has already been introduced on Statebank – Attavar – Mangaladevi (Route no 27) route and in a few days, will also be introduced on bus route passing via Talapady and Car Street. Phase by phase, this new system will be implemented in all city buses with the aim to make the conductors issue tickets to all the passengers.

How will it be managed?

This operation will be jointly conducted by the City Bus Owners Association and ‘Chalo’ App institution. 4-5 persons will be appointed for checking the tickets. Every day, they will suddenly board the bus and check passenger tickets. If in case a passenger does not take the ticket, they will inform such a passenger of the importance of the ticket. If the conductor fails to provide the ticket, he will be warned.

Spot ticketing system

With the aim to provide tickets easily, spot ticketing system has been started. In the first phase, it will be started at Attavar bus stop in the city. This bus stop is always crowded. During such an occasion, an officer of Chalo Company will be standing in the bus with the ticket provision system. He will provide tickets the passengers on the spot.

Awareness in the ticket

In the coming days, the tickets being provided in the bus will have whatsapp number mentioned in it for giving complaints and also there will be a message giving awareness on taking a ticket. Already this is being used on an experimental basis in Attavar route buses.

 What happens if the ticket is not taken?

Why should I take the ticket? What will happen if I don’t take the ticket are the questions a passenger will obviously wonder. In case the bus you are travelling in meets with an accident, the bus ticket is essential to get the compensation for the incident. During such an occasion, the insurance company will consider the bus ticket to give the compensation. If in case you don’t have the ticket, no compensation will be provided. Besides, it is an offence from the legal point of view as well.

Awareness for passengers

“We have already informed the association that the conductor must give the ticket to all passengers. In case they fail to provide the ticket, predetermined action will be initiated. We have already conducted several programmes for spreading awareness amongst the passengers concerning the tickets,” said Jhon Misquith, (Probationary) Regional Transport Officer, Mangaluru, New Division

“The conductors of all the city buses plying in the city must compulsory provide ticket to the passengers. If incase the bus conductor fails to provide the ticket, then the passenger can procure his ticket by demanding it from the conductor. We have introduced ticket booking facility for the effective functioning of the ticket system. In the coming days, it will be introduced to even more routes,” said Dilraj Alva, President of the City Bus Owners Associations
