Mangaluru/Belthangady: Rain was reported from various locations on Saturday. The strong winds and rain experienced at Belthangady left uprooted trees lying across the highway passing through here which hindered vehicular movement.

A traffic jam lasted for more than an hour after a massive tree fell across the state highway connecting Dharmasthala with Bengaluru at Kudraya. Dharmasthala police rushed to the spot, cleared the tree and restored traffic movement.

Traffic came to a standstill for 30 min after a tree fell across Charmadi-Ujjire road near Mundaje Pilitadka. The roof of the public school at Gerukatte has been damaged. There have been reports that the strong winds in the evening inflicted damage on areca nut plantations and uprooted several trees.

Sporadic rain

Light drizzling was witnessed in Mangaluru at 7:30 pm in the evening. Rain along with thuner and lightning was experienced at Maddadadka, Guruvayanakere, Murji, Punjalakatte, Vamadapadavu, Kavalakatte, Vagga, Venur, Subrahmanya and surrounding areas. The highest and lowest temperature in the district on Saturday was 36 degree and 27 degree Celsius respectively.
