Mother-daughter hacked to death

Disputes over path in the property led to the incident

Somavarapete: In a shocking incident, a mother and daughter who were working in a coffee estate were hacked to death took place near Doddamalte village here. The decease are identified as Kavita (45) and Jagashree (17), the wife and daughter of late Veera Raju respectively.

Kavita suffered severe injuries to her head, neck, a hand and a leg while Jagashree suffered critical injury to her head and hand. Both the victims died on the spot due to massive loss of blood. When her son Megha Madan Raj called Kavita, he received the reply that the mobile was switched off so he went out into the estate in search of his parent when the incident came to light.

He immediately informed the locals who in turn informed the police. Somwarpete DySP Dinakar Shetty, Police Circle Inspector Nanjundegowa and Station Officer Shivashankar vitied the location and carried out inspection.

Locals unhappy

Even though the canine unit was brought to the location, the police failed to employ them into service and instead came forward to move the corpses, allege the locals expressing their unhappiness about it. On the occasion, the DySP and the other police officials tried to pacify the locals and finally moved the corpses only after the canine unit conducted an inspection.

It is being said that the reason behind the incident is the path in the property. It is learnt that earlier, the police had taken into custody three persons and subjected to intense questioning in connection to a fight regarding the path.

The deceased Jagashree was pursuing 2nd PU education at St Philomena College in Hassan. She had come back home on the backdrop of summer vacation. Son Megha Madan Raj is pursuing 8th std education at Maroji Desai Boarding school in Virajpet.
