Fire mishap at a pencil manufacturing unit

Uppinangady: An accidental fire at a pencil manufacturing unit has resulted in losses worth lakhs of rupees on Tuesday. The fire broke out at the digital pencil manufacturing unit belonging to Kunjathbail Rasheed located at Royal Complex here.
It is said that a person identified as Taslim, who was passing by the unit late in the night observed smoke and tongues of flame erupting from within the unit and immediately informed the locals in the vicinity before the fire spread over to other shops nearby.
On the occasion, Zhukariya who was conducting business in the same building informed the situation to Kodippadi police. The lock to the unit was broken in the presence of the police and locals Salim Nekkiladi, Fayaz, Everest, Latif, Rasheed and others doused the fire working on it for 3 hours straight.
Since it was not possible to contact the fire brigade immediately, by the time they arrive, the locals had successfully brought the inferno into control.
