40 BARC employees on poll duty deprived of right to vote

Bengaluru: As many as 40 employees of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) from Mysuru deputed as micro observers for the Lok Sabha elections were denied the chance to exercise their franchise.

As per the sources ballots were not issued to the BARC officials, as a result, they were not able to cast their vote.

It is gathered that as many as 60 BARC employees were trained for poll duty, and 40 were subsequently selected and sent to various places in Mysuru and Mandya district.

Speaking on the issue Mysuru deputy commissioner and returning officer for the Mysuru Lok Sabha seat, Abhiram G Sankar, said that they would have sent the postal ballots to those posted on poll duty if they had submitted all the necessary documents before the deadline.

He further added that a separate officer had been designated for managing postal ballots and so far, they have received any such complaints, he also assured that they will definitely look into the issue.

While the officials of the central government agency were doing their bit to ensure the largest democratic exercise in the world faced no hurdles, they were unable to fulfil their duties owing to the apathetic attitude of the officials concerned.
