Illegal sand extraction unit raided; goods seized

Bantwal: In a raid conducted on an illegal sand extraction unit under the leadership of Bantwal sub division ASP Saidul Adavat and team has led to the seizure of goods worth Rs 1.67 crore which has been handed over to the Mines and Geology Department.

The operation was conducted based on definite information that sand was being illegally extracted from the backwaters of Netravati River at Sujir in Padu village. The extracted sand was filtered and then sold at high prices in the market. The workers escaped from the location during the raid.

3 tipper lorries worth Rs 24 lakh, one L&T excavator worth Rs 55 lakh, one Kobelco excavator worth Rs 80 lakh, a generator worth Rs 6 lakh, a sand filtering unit worth Rs 80,000 and 35 loads of sand worth Rs1.10 lakh was seized, inform the police.
