Bengaluru: In the backdrop of Sri Lanka Army’s chief statement that few of the suicide bombers who carried out a series of blasts in Colombo last month had visited Bengaluru apart from Kashmir and Kerala, central agencies, including the intelligence bureau, reportedly alerted the state’s Home Department to increase security measures in public areas.

Senior police officers held a meeting and issued directions on standard operating procedures for security drills to be carried out in public places, including bus stands, railway stations, airports, malls, multiplexes, hotels, and other commercial establishments.

As per a police source, they have been asked to intensify patrolling and keep an eye for any suspicious activity or persons as part of a routine security drill in public places. Hotels and lodges have also been asked to collect records and verify address proof of foreign nationals lodged at their establishments.

Meanwhile speaking to reporters here City police commissioner Suneel Kumar said that the police are always on an alert and there is no reason for panic. “We have already called a meeting of all religious heads and staff of malls to discuss security,” he said.
