Bantwal: Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Lakshmi Prasad flagged off the Rani Abbakka Pade, an all-women force at B C Road in Bantwal on Monday.

A similar initiative was taken by the Mangaluru City police recently. Aimed at dealing with issues related to women the Rani Abbaka Pade is being launched in every district/commissionerate following directions from the Director General and Inspector General of Police.

Two teams of six women personnel will be deployed in each taluk. These teams will function under the guidance of Assistant Police Superintendent and under supervision of Circle Inspector of Police.

Members sporting navy blue T-shirt, Dongri pant, commando shoe and a cap, will patrol public places such as educational institutions and PG hostels, including in Puttur and Bantwal in their vehicles.

The personnel of the force will also patrol public areas where women are susceptible to stalking, harassment and chain-snatching, especially at bus stands, railway stations, parks, temples, markets and tourist places.
