Bengaluru: Senior BJP leader, Basavangowda Patil Yatnal on Tuesday, May 7 said that he is an aspirant for the post of the BJP’s state unit president.
Addressing presspersons he said that BS Yeddyurappa is their leader and also BJp’s Chief Ministerial candidate, but after Yeddyurappa, he will become party president.
Basavangowda’s comment comes amidst the buzz about the party’s intentions to change its state president after the Lok Sabha results are announced. With many senior and young leaders lining up for the post, Basavangowda appears to have decided it was time he staked his claim as well.
However, recently the BJP’s central leadership had announced that the BJP’s state unit president will be changed only after August and not before that.
It may be recalled that in 2007, Basavangowda was one of the strongest contenders for the post and had the backing of the late Union minister, Ananth Kumar, but Yeddyurappa was keen on DV Sadananda Gowda for it.
