Udupi: The lack of water has not only affected homes, hotels and religious centres, it has also reached public toilets as well.
People coming to the city on work at government offices as well as the residents of the town are inevitably visiting the toilets at the bus stand here. Besides, due to the lack of water, the residents of the flats in the vicinity of the bus stand also go in search of public toilets to address nature’s call. The managers of the toilet within the jurisdiction of the municipality are paying additional money to procure water via tankers to manage the situation.
Those at the public toilets are still charging the same amount for the use toilets as per before. The vehicles going to various location including Manipal, Alevur, Atradi, Santhekatte, Ambagilu and Ambalpady pass through the city bus stand itself. Daily, more than 500 people make use of the toilets. Such is the state of other public toilets too.
The daily income from the toilet is Rs 1,500. We spend Rs 2,000 to get tanker water. No problem if it’s a loss. Service to the people is important, informs toilet in-charge Ajay Kumar.
