Hit-and-run accident at Maravanthe: Kashmiri lorry driver killed

Kundapur: A pedestrian lost his life in a A hit-and-run accident on national highway 66 at Maravanthe near here on Friday May 10. The victim is identified as Kuldeep Kumar, a native of Jammu and Kashmir and a lorry driver by profession.

Mr Kumar had come to Maravanthe to transport goods. After parking his lorry on the roadside and as he was about to cross the road, a speeding car proceeding towards Bhatkal from Kundapur, rammed into him and sped away.

The severely injured Kuldeep was immediately rushed to a hospital in Kundapur in ‘Jeeva Rakshaka’ ambulance from Gangolli, where he was provided with first aid. He was then shifted to Manipal for further treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries along the way.

The corpse has been stored at the morgue in Manipal hospital. Gangolli police have registered a case.

Police action

Following the accident, eyewitnesses gave a detailed description of the car to the Gangolli police who in turn informed Byndoor police. Immediate action was taken by Byndoor police and managed to waylay the Brezza car which was moving at a high speed. The car was seized and the errant driver was identified as Mohammed Ghaus Hasan against whom a case has been registered.
