Kankanady town police arrest two for chain snatching

Mangaluru: Two persons have been arrested by Kankanady town police on the charges of chain snatching and police have seized a motorcycle and gold ornament.
The accused are identified as Harshith Shetty (25), son of Dinakar Shetty, a resident of Alape village and Havith Poojary (24), son of Suresh Poojary, a resident of Kulashekar. Of the duos, Harshith has several pending cases against him in Kavoor and Ullal police station for murder, robbery attempt, drug peddling and other charges. Havith also has pending cases related to murder and attempt to murder in Kavoor and Ullal police stations.
On April 22 2019, the accused had come on a motorcycle and on the pretext of seeking directions, snatched the Mangalasutra from the neck of an elderly woman who was walking along Naguri Angelore Church road.
The police team carried out investigation based on the complaint filed at Kankanady town police station and successfully nabbed the accused. Along with the arrest, the police also seized the Mangalasutra and a motorcycle worth Rs 1.10 lakh from the accused who have been remanded to judicial custody.
