Kundapur: Two small boats which left fishing from Kodi beach ran into a sand bar and got stuck in it on Saturday. The fishermen aboard both the vessels are safe.

The two boats named Mandarti Mata belong to Vishwanath Kharvi from Kodi and got stuck in the sand due to the fall of water level in the sea. The fishermen aboard the boat waited for the afternoon tide post which they brought the vessels ashore.

The mud removed in the backdrop of the break water work being carried out at Gangolli has been dumped here and not cleared, hence leading to the collision, allege the fishermen. A few days back too, a boat had gotten stuck in the sand in a similar manner. The sand is piling up in the estuary and if it is not removed before the monsoon, even more accidents may occur here, warn the fishermen expressing their fear.
