Do your best for the nation, Udupi DC tells nursing students

Manipal: Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, Deputy Commissioner Udupi District told the budding nurses to dedicate their work to the cause of humanity and provide best services to the nation. “You are important and your contribution to the progress of the entire nation is invaluable,” she said at the International Nurses Day celebrations organized by Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal here at the Dr TMA Pai auditorium on Saturday.

“Nurses are the voice and critical force in times of distress in health care sector,” she added.  Dr. Poornima Baliga B, Pro Vice Chancellor – Faculty of Health Sciences, MAHE Manipal was the Presiding Officer for the function.  In her presidential address she congratulated MCON for conducting various programme during the week. In her address, she stressed on team work in health care and said that nurses have an important role to play in a health care team and their motto should be service to the community.

As a part of Nurses’ Week celebration, various activities like Blood Donation camp, Awareness programme for mothers of under-five children, Workshop on Interprofessional Practice and Education, Debate Competition, and a Seminar on the ICN theme for 2019 Nurses’ Day – Nurses : A voice to lead – Health for all’ were conducted.

Dr. Kasturi R. Adiga, the former Principal of MSON Manipal was the Guest of Honour. Dr. Anice George, Dean MCON said that nurses can help in transforming health care and health systems so that no person was left without access to care.

Three eminent nurses Mrs. Gulabi Kudva former Tutor MSON, Mrs. Vijayalaksmi, retired ward in charge NICU, KH Manipal and Mrs. Padma, Retd. ANM, RMCW Malpe, Udupi were felicitated for their contribution for the welfare of patients, nurses and nursing students.

Cash award for Excellence in Clinical Practice instituted by Dr. Kasturi R Adiga were awarded to Ms. Ashmitha Raveena Lobo (PBB.SC Nursing) and Mr. Kenet Marvin Saldanha (GNM) outgoing students of 2017-18 batch. Mrs. Mariamma MT was awarded with excellence in clinical practice for nursing service. Certificates were distributed to the winners of the debate competition held as part of Nurses’ Week activities.
