Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner S Sasikanth Senthil on Monday, May 13 informed that the district administration was planning to develop two important waterfront corridor schemes – from Bengre to Kuloor bridge and from Bunder-Tile factory-Nethravathi bridge – in order to promote tourism.
He was speaking at an interaction programme on ‘Tourism Development in Dakshina Kannada District, organized by Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Association, district administration, Forest Department and Tourism Core Committee at Thannirbavi Tree Park.
A series of activities, such as the development of jetties, seating arrangements, etc which will help boost tourism will be undertaken in the riverfront stretches from Bengre to Kuloor, informed Senthil adding that the developmental activities need to be properly planned following relaxations on Coastal Regulating Zone (CRZ) guidelines.
He emphasized on the need to keep the city’s culture in mind while promoting tourism to avoid over-exploitation of resources. He disclosed plans of Sasihithlu and Bengre beaches being developed as a surfing destination in the district.
Further, he added that private investors also need to play an active role to develop tourism in the area.
