Vittal: A chaotic situation prevailed at Saradka checkpost near Vittal on Monday night as few locals tried to chase and intercept a vehicle on suspicion that it was the same vehicle used in kidnapping of a girl.
On May 13 evening, a Bolero vehicle was used to kidnap a college-going girl from her house at Kalathur in Kerala. This news had gone viral on WhatsApp. Later that night locals spotted a Bolero vehicle coming from Perla moving in high speed towards Vittal which led them to that it belonged to the abductors.
The locals chased the vehicle and even signaled it to stop. The driver however ignored their signals and continued to speed away which only fuelled their suspicions. When the vehicle finally stopped at the check post here the locals tried to attack the occupants of the car without even bothering to verify the truth.
As the mob went unruly the police had to resort to a mild lathi charge to disperse them. A Probationary SI sustained injuries in the incident.
