Gurpur: An accidental fire gutted an empty dry land at Gurpur Doninjeya and left the plants and trees charred here on Tuesday night.

The fire which started small on Monday died on itself due to mild winds. But on Tuesday, the strong winds reignited the fire which spread with hunger and consumed the plants and trees here.

Emergency message sent

The widespread dry land was completely captured by the flames which caused much fear among the locals here. The entire surroundings in the area were curtained in smoke and since it was getting challenging to contain the fire, an emergency message was sent to Mangaluru fire brigade.

The fire engine reached the location and the fire personnel controlled the fire after an operation which lasted for close to 90 minutes.

Act by miscreants suspected

It is suspected that some miscreants might be responsible for the fire. The locals suspect that the fire was set to the open dry land with outgrowth to prevent the trouble caused by peacocks to a vegetable cultivation in the vicinity.
