104 dengue cases in four-and-a-half months

Mangaluru/ Udupi: In the last four-and-a-half months period, 56 and 48 cases of dengue have been reported from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
In comparison to last year, it seems that dengue cases have fallen slightly in DK district. 84 cases were identified in the district from January to May in 2018. Altogether 56 dengue cases have been confirmed in the district till May 15th 2019.
On the occasion of National Dengue Day celebration at ZP office on Thursday, DK district Health and family Welfare Officer Dr Ramakrishna spoke and said, 584 dengue cases were reported in the district in 2018 from January to December. Last year, altogether 46 people were affected by dengue in the month of May. This year, 9 cases have been identified until May 15th. In 2016, 400 persons were affected by the diseases, but in 2017, there was a drastic drop in the number to 136 cases. However in 2018, the number of cases has increased to 584, he informed.
In Udupi district, 228 dengue cases were reported in 2018. This year since the beginning, 48 cases have been reported so far, informed Udupi District Health and Family Welfare Officer Om Prakash Kattimane in a press release.
This year, there are 37 dengue patients within Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) limits, which in comparison to other parts of the district is the highest. Remaining, there are 9 cases in Mangaluru taluk, 7 in Bantwal, 2 in Belthangady and one in Sullia taluk. There has be no report regarding dengue case in Puttur taluk, he said.
District Pathogenic Disease (Malaria) Control Officer Dr Arun Kumar spoke and said, necessary precautionary action has been taken in regard to controlling dengue.
575 malaria cases
75,579 people were subjected to blood tests in Dakshina Kannada district of which 575 people tested positive for malaria. The highest number of cases were from within MCC limits with a total of 544 people infected by the disease, explained Dr Arun. District Surveyor Officer Dr Praveen was present.
Several infected by Dengue in Kodimbala
Kadaba: There are suspected dengue cases in some areas of Kodimbala village. On Thursday, staffs from the Health Department and Asha workers visited the houses of the patients, collected information and provided guidance regarding the treatment to be provided to the patient.
More cases have been noticed at Palappe, Muliya, Kotari and Uderi areas of Kodimbala. Even though no dengue related cases have been confirmed at Kabaka government hospital, the blood tested at the lab in the hospital has identified 15-20 patients to be affected by the virus.
