Udupi: Incumbent BJP MP Shobha Krandlaje representing Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency has registered a lead by over 70,000 votes over JD(S)-Congress coalition candidate Pramod Madhwaraj by 11:30am.

Ms Karandlaje has secured over 1,40,000 votes as against 72,000-odd votes secured by Madhwaraj.

It apparently seems like Shobha is all set to record her second straight victory this time. She had previously defeated K Jayaprakash Hegde of the Congress by a margin of 1.81 lakh votes in 2014.

Meanwhile, Amrith Shenoy, who quit Congress just before elections and contested as an independent candidate, garnered over 1,700 votes by 11.30 am. The official announcement is yet to be done. More details awaited.
