Mangaluru: Although prohibitory orders were in effect in Dakshina Kannada district, the BJP and its supporters nonetheless organised a victory march in response to the thumping victory of their candidate Nalin Kumar on Thursday May 23rd.
On receiving a hint that Nalin would secure a victory, the party workers started victory celebrations at 10 am itself with bursting of crackers and beating of drums at the party office. A crowd also gathered at the party’s election office near Bunts Hostel and started celebrating but faced objection from the police.
The police were successful in convincing the party workers initially, but soon after the victory on the candidate, celebrations could not be prevented. A victory procession was held from the party’s elections office to the party’s office at PVS causing traffic disruption for half-an-hour. The supporters were waving party flags in their vehicles, screaming and raising slogans in support of BJP and Modi.
It is learnt that although prohibitory orders were clamped throughout the district no permission was sought for the organization of the victory procession.
