Bengaluru: Senior Congress leader HK Patil on Friday assumed moral responsibility for the party’s dismal performance in the Lok Sabha elections and submitted his resignation from the post of KPCC Campaign Committee Chairman.

In a tweet, Patil said: “Owning the responsibility for the loss in Lok Sabha Elections, I hereby resign as a Chairman of Karnataka Campaign Committee. I would like to thank shri @RahulGandhi ji, @kcvenugopalmp ,@dineshgrao ,@siddaramaiah for the opportunity to serve the party.”

In the resignation letter, addressed to Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Patil writes that the results of the elections were contrary to party expectations and it was time to introspect and work towards strengthening the party from the grass-root level. “I feel it my moral duty to own-up responsibility for this debacle,” he adds.

In December last year, Patil assumed charge as president of the KPCC campaign committee from his predecessor Water Resources Minister DK Shivakumar.

Meanwhile, KPCC president Dinesh Gundurao on Friday accepted responsibilty for party defeat and even offered to submit his resignation.
