Bengaluru: Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda on Saturday requested his grandson Prajwal Revanna not to tender his resignation.
The JDS supremo had given the Hassan constituency in order to launch Prajwal and contested from Tumkur constituency. He, however, was defeated by BJP’s GS Basavaraju.
Prajwal Revanna who won the Lok Sabha election from Hassan constituency announced his decision to resign from the post of MP. Clarifying his decision, which came less than 24 hours of his victory, Prajwal said that he is vacating the seat for his grandfather HD Deve Gowda.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday, May 24 Prajwal said, “Deve Gowda is the founder of our party. He sacrificed the Hassan seat for my sake. His place needs to be restored, so I am resigning. He can contest the by-elections from here,” he said
Prajwal, the lone JD(S) candidate who won the Lok Sabha election from Hassan, on Friday announced that he will resign in order to vacate the seat for his grandfather who lost from Tumkur against BJP’s GS Basavaraju.
“I thought about this all night and I’ve arrived at this decision…I don’t intend to disrespect the people of Hassan. But Deve Gowda is the foundation of our party and we need to restore his place,” Prajwal had said.
