Pre-monsoon showers arrive but the heat persists!

Mangaluru: Karavali which has been facing a pre-monsoon rain deficit has been receiving rains during the evenings and nights since a week. In that too, even though Mangaluru city has not experienced heavy rains, it has nonetheless witnessed rain, thunder and lightning since a week during the nights, which has brought down the temperatures ever so slightly.
The rain being experienced currently is the pre-monsoon showers which normally start from April to the end of May. But this time, pre-monsoon showers have reduced considerably and did not begin as it should have from the month of April. Besides, it did not start in the month of May as well. The pre-monsoon rain started only at the end of May and because of this, DK district is already facing a shortage in rainfall by 63%.
Since there was surface storm in the hinterlands of the south, it resulted in the blowing of hot winds. Even though there was rain during the nights, the hot temperatures remain persistent. In comparison to the normal, the present temperature is higher by 3-4 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature in the district is reaching 37 degree Celsius.
Lack of rain
Presently, Dakshina Kannada district is facing a rain deficit of 63%. The lack of rain in Belthangady taluk is 55%, Bantwal is 74%, Mangaluru 85%, Puttur 65% and Sullia 44%. Comparison of lack of rain suffered by all the taluks shows that Mangaluru face has faced the highest deficit.
Curiosity of May 29th
Last year, the district received heavy rains on May 29th. Many are curious on what might happen this year? The record rain that Mangaluru city received last year caused artificial flooding of many low lying areas. According to the forecast of the Weather Department, the district is expected to receive normal rainfall on May 29th.
