Mangaluru: Although a few places in the district have experienced rain, the heat of the summer still persists. This very reason has led to the increase in the number of beach visitors by the day. On Sunday, Panambur beach was visited by more than 20,000 tourists.
The summer vacation of school students is drawing to an end and the number of tourists coming to the beaches from various locations in the district and from other states is on the rise. Since the district has not received any heavy rains, the sea has remained relatively calm. This has encouraged more tourists to venture out into the water and enjoy it. Consequently, more importance is also being given towards safety here.
30,000 tourists
In comparison to the previous few months, the number of visitors to Panambur and Tannirbavi beaches has doubled. More than 4,000 people are visiting Panambur beach daily. During the weekends, the number goes past 15,000. Meanwhile, Sultan Battery beach is attracting around 3,000 visitors daily and during the weekends, the number rises to around 10,000. But now, school and college students are currently on summer vacation and hence during the weekend, both the beaches together, are visited by more than 30,000 tourists.
As the number of tourists is rising, the Tourism Department is also giving more attention towards providing basic facilities to the tourists here. Currently boating stop is being provided at Panambur beach and also the number of lifeguards here has been increased to 16 members. Additionally, a variety of eateries have also popped up along the beach side.
