Karkala: An elderly woman fell victim to devious plans of a family member who allegedly pledged her property documents to raise a loan of Rs eight lakhs from Allahabad bank here.
The victim, Seetha Poojary, 80, is specially-abled and had been living with her sister, Varija at Nelligudde in Kukkundoor village in the taluk for the last 35 years. Seetha’s only daughter is married while one of Varija’s three daughters are married and the other two reside with Seetha.
It is gathered that Varija’s son-in-law raised the Rs 8 loan from Allahabad bank in the year 2013 without informing Seetha. He had pledged the 5 cents land owned by Seetha as collateral for the loan.
According to Seetha, Varija’s married daughter Jayasheela had told her that she wants to avail a loan of Rs 2 lakh for house repairs. However, the loan amount was Rs eight lakhs and Seetha came to know this only recently when bank served a notice for repayment.
Seetha has accused Jayasheela of raising a huge loan from the bank by giving her land and house as security. The family which is in no position to repay the loan are now running from pillar to post to come out of this situation.
